Dr. Milena Penkowa is living in Copenhagen in Denmark. Since 1993, she has been a neuroscientist working with metallothionein and brain research at the University of Copenhagen at the Panum Institute. At the University of Copenhagen she became medical graduate and Doctor of Medicine in 1998 and studied the PhD degree in neuroscience. In the year 2000, Milena Penkowa was awarded Super Post Doc fellow and became Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen in 2002. In the year 2001, Milena Penkowa submitted her chief doctoral thesis to the University of Copenhagen in order to obtain the highest degree in medicine and become Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc). Milena Penkowa has received honours and been awarded, and lately has received the honourable prize Lundbeckfondens Talentpris 2002, and in 2004 the honourable prize Grosserer Johan Quentin og Hustrus Legat. Milena Penkowa is also board member and treasurer of the Danish Society for Neuroscience. Dr. Penkowa is a board member of the NeuroCluster (the University of Copenhagen’s new Research Priority Area). Also, she is part of the Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) & the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO).
